Dr Wael Agur

MBChB MSc MD FRCOG

Dr Wael Agur is a doubly qualified Subspecialist in Urogynaecology as well as a General Gynaecologist and Obstetrician; with a clinical caseload that includes both elective and emergency work.

He runs a Research Fellowship Programme in the Subspeciality of Urogynaecology; including conservative treatment and surgical reconstruction for women with Stress Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Organ Prolapse.

Dr Wael Agur provided medico-legal advice to NHS Scotland Central Legal Office and has given evidence to The Federal Court of Australia in July 2017. The Judgement from November 2019 can be found here. He continues to provide Expert advice to several law firms in the UK, Republic of Ireland, and Australia.

Current Roles

Dr Wael Agur has been a Consultant Gynaecologist & Obstetrician and the Clinical Lead in Urogynaecology in NHS Ayrshire & Arran, since Feb 2009. Honorary Clinical Associate Professor with The University of Glasgow.

He is also Honorary Research Fellow with NHS Research Scotland and NHS Ayrshire & Arran. Dr Wael Agur is the Independent Specialist Adviser for The Scottish Government Accountable Officers Group dealing with Pelvic Mesh Complications.

Dr Wael Agur is a recognised Mentor for Native Tissue Continence Surgery by The British Society of Urogynaecology, The Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologist.

Recent Roles

Dr Wael Agur served for several years as the Course Director for The UK-wide Laparoscopic and Native Tissue Urogynaecology Workshops – run by NHS Ayrshire & Arran and London Medical Education Academy.

He also served for two years as a Clinician Member on The Interventional Procedure Advisory Committee (IPAC) of The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), as well as a Specialist Member of The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Surgical Mesh.

He had served for 4 years as a Clinician Member on several Scottish Government Groups dealing with the usage of Pelvic Mesh Procedures, including The Short-Life Working Group, The Expert Group and The Independent Review Group. He also served for two years as a Clinician Member (Information Sub-Group) of NHS England Pelvic Mesh Oversight Group.
